“Peregrination” is another word for adventure, meaning “a journey, especially a long or meandering one.” There can be a lot of time to fill during one’s peregrinations while you’re exploring. It’s nice to have something interesting in your head while trying hard to think of nothing. Emptying your mind of chatter is easier when you fill it with something you want to think about, memorize, or repeat, like a mantra. I like to memorize things while on the move: songs, poems, scripture, the Preamble to the Constitution (to the tune from Schoolhouse Rock), and things like the military phonetic alphabet (yup, I’m a complete nerd)….
